Health and Safety Law for Managers and Supervisors – Provincial Regulations

The OHSA mandates that all Managers and Supervisors be ‘competent’ in their roles at their workplaces. For a manager/supervisor “competent”, that person must be:

  1. qualified because of knowledge, training and experience to organize the work and its performance
  2. familiar with this Act and the regulations that apply to the work, and
  3. have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace

This course is designed to assist in meeting the requirements of items (b) and (c) above and also ensure that Managers and Supervisors have the knowledge required to play their role in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and protect employees.

By understanding and carrying out their duties, Managers and Supervisors will be able to play a crucial role in the overall management of health and safety and the control of health and safety hazards in the workplace.

Who Should Attend: Managers, Supervisors, Human Resource Professionals, Joint Health and Safety Committee Members, Safety Representatives, and any employees having authority over other employees or that direct work.

  • What is due diligence
  • Roles and responsibilities of Joint Health and Safety committee /safety reps
  • Work refusal and work stoppage
  • Workplace violence and harassment
  • Enforcement offences and penalties

  • Locate applicable OHSA Legislation relating to your industry
  • Understand your health and safety responsibilities
  • Take leadership in developing and implementing a Health & Safety program
  • Understand consequences of non-compliance
  • Exercise due diligence
